Meet BottlePlus, your new water bottle.
Effortlessly savor a nourishing snack on-the-go, minus all the wastefulness, all thanks to this simple yet brilliant design.
DESIGN PROBLEM
Plastic is commonly used in Australia for food packaging and grocery bags due to its cost-effectiveness, durability, and water-resistant nature. However, inadequate disposal knowledge results in littering, leading to severe environmental consequences.
BottlePlus aims to reduce plastic waste by creating a durable water bottle that promotes sustainable usage and healthier food choices. Designed to foster a healthy relationship with the product and promote organization, the BottlePlus bottle targets university students to impact their dietary habits positively.
Initial Concept
Initially, my idea was to design a robust container that caters to everyone's needs by attaching a stainless steel bottle to it. Through Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, I have created a series of concept drawings that showcase the product's features, its usage, and the user experience map.
RESEARCH
While I was initially pleased with the concept of my bottle, the design required further refinement. The bottle appeared bulky and failed to meet my aesthetic expectations. After careful consideration, I've decided to opt for a round cap shape and to maintain a subtle gap between the container and the bottle. I drew inspiration from various water bottles that have been successful with consumers, researching what made them stand out in order to create a unique design.
Upon determining the shape and dimensions of the bottle, I moved forward with modeling it in Solidworks to prepare it for 3D printing on the MakerBot machine.
The following video showcases the process and the ultimate output.
